Sometimes things get turned around, and Monday’s there.

Thoughts/feelings that just might not matter:

Good morning, and Happy Monday to all! It’s back to workin’ for a living. Working for health insurance mostly. Forty hours a week so my mother can sleep at night. That some costly Nyquil!

Hey, we had a record high 151 visits to The Gazette on Friday! And I didn’t even serve a full course meal! Thanks for stopping by. I hope you’re enjoying what I do here.

It’s time for my weekly weekend wrap-up, and I begin with triumphantly leaving work early on Friday. Matt the Electrician and I had a show in Houston at the legendary Anderson Fair, so we had to get on the road by 3. We arrived early for sound check, and we hit up Ming’s down the road for some disposable Chinese food. It’s a strangely unsatisfying tradition. I’m sure there is some great food in that area, but we’re too lazy to seek it out.

We both like to look nice for Anderson Fair. Folks are paying $15 to see us; it only seems right to put on a button-up shirt. We travel in our undershirts with our overshirts hanging in the backseat. This makes us look funny when we get out of the car. Two men, jeans, white shirts, eating Chinese food on a deck in Montrose. During our last visit, this quaint scene earned us a drive-by declaration of “Fags!” Ah, my hometown.

Anykaboodle, the show was super fun, with a great crowd, good sound, and good vibes. We left the club at 1 am, and Matt drove us all the way back to Austin. I tried to stay an awake and active passenger, but I was in and out of consciousness. The only thing that revived me was the occasional Aerosmith tune or a mouse running across the freeway. I found my bed at 4 am and slept until 1 pm. It was a long week.

Saturday saw the return of C-Dar Fevar, as we performed at Nasty’s for Joey P’s birthday. The Mazz was not able to make it, but ¾ C-Dar Fevar is better than none at all, I suppose. Nasty’s, if you can’t tell from the name, is a bar. A nasty bar with big screen TVs for watching big football games. I had no idea that there was a major UT game on that night. I had no idea we’d perform during the 3rd quarter. No idea that we’d be confronting some very upset and losing Longhorns. But I’m a professional. So I slipped into my argyle sweater, necked my honor cords, and donned my urban visor to become Cuddly Paw and face the music.

“Boo!”

Keep singing, keep dancing.

“You guys are idiots!”

Keep singing, keep dancing.

“No one cares what you’re saying! UT is losing!”

Keep singing, keep dancing.

“Nazis!”

Keep singing, keep dancing.

It was over in a flash, and we made it out of there intact. UT’s chances at another national title did not fare so well. It just goes to show that folks should live vicariously through fake boy bands instead of football teams. We always come out on top.

Sunday was a wonderful couple day. Maggie and I packed the daylight with breakfast tacos, Entourage, The Office (BBC), walking around the lake, scoring Frappuccinos (Gift Card!), browsing (Anthropology?, REI, Bookpeople, Whole Foods), and cooking up some yummy frozen pizza. It was a day of non-planned, non-pressured activity, the memory of which is almost getting me through this day at the office without a scowl.
