June 10, 2008 By: Southpaw Jones Category: Interesting?

Hey, I just found out I’m opening for Lisa Loeb Wednesday night at the Cactus Cafe. That’ll be fun! I expect some wonderful eyewear on stage and off.

I could use a fun gig to boost my confidence, as I found one of my CDs in the clearance bin at Half Price Books the other day. Bedroom Demos Vol. 1: Zero Demand. On one hand, it’s always good to know your CDs are out there in the world, but on the other hand, the clearance bin? Really? Just because I’m not in some superstar database? Because it actually says “zero demand” on it?

Of course, the question of the day is who sold it? Who didn’t want my CD in their apartment anymore? I have no clue, but I do have an imagination, so here is my vision of the seller’s journal entry on the day of sale.

I’m down to crumbs here. I’ve sold my maximum amount of plasma for the month. All my furniture is gone and my walls are bare. These are tough times, and I’ve cleaned out my media collection completely except for this one CD by Southpaw Jones. It’s my favorite. I love every second of it. Unfortunately, I need to sell it today, so I can buy some ramen noodles. I need sustenance desperately. I’ve made three copies of the disk and imported it into iTunes, but I’ll really miss this great case and the super-cool design. This isn’t easy for me. Perhaps a bus will strike me down on my way to the store, and the CD and I will float up to heaven together. But I know better than to think those thoughts. I’ll get back on my feet someday, and when I do, I’ll buy a dozen fresh, new copies of Bedroom Demos Vol. 1: Zero Demand. That is, after all, the definition of success.
