CRUELTY is now available!
Order now at southpawjones.com.
Purchase the CD or MP3s at cdbaby.com.
Grab a copy in real time at Waterloo Records or End of an Ear in Austin.
Or buy one from me any Thursday at Flipnotics @ the Triangle.

I don’t have a Southpaw show in Austin to promote this weekend, but I strongly recommend the Sea Fields of Elephants EP Release Party at Ruta Maya on Saturday. This fresh band is releasing three EPs for $4 each, but when you pay the $5 cover, you get one free! The evening will feature members of my favorite young band Max & Henry. Henry will present a DJ set, and Max is in Sea Fields of Elephants. The event goes from 5-9 pm. If you want a taste of the future of wonderful Austin music, cleanse your palette with pickled ginger and head to Ruta Maya Saturday!

When I arrived at my Flipnotics @ the Triangle show last night, I discovered a review of CRUELTY in The Austin Chronicle. Hooray! It’s a three star write-up that begins, “There are thousands of singer-songwriters, but only one Southpaw Jones.” Why does such a sentence inspire gobs of pride in my heart? Because it’s always encouraging to rediscover that if I weren’t writing all these crazy songs, no one would. I’ve got work to do! You can read the full review here.

Lastly this day, it’s another video from my CRUELTY release show last week at the Cactus Café. Thanks to Robert Steel for filming and posting the footage. He also included kind words in his MySpace blog. The song is called “Baked Potato,” and this may be the best performance of it to date. It requires solid crowd participation, and I had an amazing crowd that night. Not only did everyone sing, but everyone seemed to know how to sing! Go Austin!

EASTPORT, L.I. — Ever since their babyhood sixteen-year-old Ollie Tuttle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Erastus Tuttle of this place, and Bessie Edwards, the small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Edwards of Speonk, two years the lad’s junior, have been playmates.

One clue whose answer consists of two rhyming words:

I love that nostalgic show that focuses on pop culture during the Reagan years, but it’s limited to an island republic in the West Indies. You know the one I’m talking about! It’s called “I Love…

I wasn’t used to children and they were getting on my nerves. Worse, it appeared that I was a child, too. I hadn’t known that before; I thought I was just short.
