Man at SloMo

January 18, 2008 By: Southpaw Jones Category: Bedroom Demo, CD Track, iPawed No Comments →

Please take a moment to vote for Southpaw Jones as Best Songwriter in The Austin Chronicle Music Poll, http://www.austinchronicle.com/feedback/musicpoll/07/. You don’t have to live in Austin to vote, and you don’t have to believe he deserves it.

Ok, I wanted to present a song for Friday, glorious Friday! I coded this entry to play Man at Home, a standout number from Bedroom Demos Vol. 1: Zero Demand. For some reason, it’s playing at a slow speed, on this computer at least. Here’s the weird part: It sounds kind of cool and smooth! Like chopped and screwed, as the kids say. Or just screwed? Anywayz, here it is. Enjoy:

If you’d like to hear it at actual speed, you can order the CD or purchase an MP3 at iTunes. Happy Friday! Come on back Monday!

The 5th Day of Southpaw: George

December 28, 2007 By: Southpaw Jones Category: iPawed No Comments →

Happy Friday! I hope you’re enjoying these tiny updates. The site will return to normal on January 7, 2008.

For now, here’s a live recording of George, based, as always, on a true story. The recording dates back to January 27, 2003 at Eddie’s Attic in Georgia. You can hear a more recent version with Matt the Electrician by ordering our CD of duets, Playing: Live at Cafe Mundi.

This girl only dates Mexican guys
She’s got a way with her “como se dice”
She’s tired of all these Texans with their Texican lies
And she’d rather take a southern holiday

She don’t care if anyone’s on time
She don’t care if they speak her language
She don’t care, and she’s unaware
That George wants her bad
That George wants her real, real bad
That George wants her totally bad
But she’ll never know

My friend George is one-quarter Mexican
His name is pretty gringo and his looks are too
This girl’s name found its way into his lexicon
He keeps repeating it, he keeps repeating it

And he don’t care that she lives so far away
He don’t care that she lost his number
He don’t care, and she remains unaware
That George wants her bad…

This girl only dates
That guy hesitates
Mexico contemplates its economic plight
This girl doesn’t know
That guy doesn’t show
God bless Mexico tonight

George my friend is making his move
Turn your head ’cause this could spell disaster
The apocalypse hits as he’s finding his groove
And he doesn’t even get the chance to ask her

Now he don’t care that he’s burning in hell
He don’t care that he never got to tell
It’s all swell ’cause they’re sharing a cell
And George wants her bad…
