This is an unreleased recording for my darlin’, a mellow tune for the day after Xmas. Look for it on Bedroom Demos Vol. 2 someday.
Objects at rest tend to stay at rest
Objects in love might not even know
I’ve been tracking our conversations
I’ve been noticing sweeter words
I’d like to build something with you
Our book begins with exposition’s glow
That middle half we’ll jot down as we go
Add in multiple happy endings
The peaceful dim of a denouement
I plan to highlight every word
Momentum
Exponential
Day after day
Silence like this doesn’t come for cheap
We sit and stare and neither makes a peep
We’re not lacking in things to say
But at the end of an earthbound day
I’d rather fix my eyes on you
I stole a kiss thinking death was nigh
Hail and shrapnel flashing by
But I did not want to die
For the first time in a while
I draw a line from your chin to your chest
My mind plays games with good, better, and best
Better was she who came before
And good was the girl who cracked my door
And you are the best thing for me now
Momentum
Exponential
Day after day

You’ve got beautiful muscles and a big wholesome heart
Your ribs start together and then drift apart
There’s black in your lung from the smoke of your youth
And some minor decay in your #12 tooth
But I long to look at your skin, your skin
I’m tired of worshipping what’s within
For once I could act like those shallow ass guys
Who stare at your chest, not straight through your eyes
I couldn’t describe the shade of your hair
As well as the shapes in the building back there
The man in that high rise is about to disrobe
So I return my attention to your frontal lobe
But I long to look at your flesh
I’m bored with watching your nerve endings mesh
I’d rather be dealing with your blemished face
Than to know all the routes that your blood vessels trace.
I’ve got x-ray vision and I’ve got no control
I’d rather see wrinkles than another lost soul
And I’d rather see you comin’ through the hole in my door
Than to look down in sadness at the earth’s molten core
There’s a bone in your fried fish
I’d leave that bite there.

I recorded a little tune for my baby’s birthday. It made its world premiere for an audience of one over the weekend, so you can listen to it now.
It’s called “Usually,” and it’s about our adult relationship, you see. Were I in high school, I might have written a love song called “Always and Forever Saccharine,” but now I’m thirty years old, and I know that true love is more about “Usually.”
Thank god.
“Always” love makes me want to gag, which is why I’m a cat person, not a dog person.
I am definitely a Maggie person, and this song is for her. She likes it when I rap.
USUALLY
My baby’s fond of animals
My baby’s fond of me
Usually
I’ve got a little bit of time in between events
And she’s got a little bit of time in between events
It’s times like these we have the best times
Yes, it’s times like these we have the best times
Usually
She fills a great big room
With her itty-bitty body
A dancer, a hotty
But modern, not naughty
She drinks iced toddy
On her cruise ta Houston
The town we used ta roost in
I lose my blues by booze in
But she’s a Wilhite
Keeps her ass tight
And her teeth white
And if I act right
She’ll stay the night…
Usually
She don’t like whiskey
She likes iced tea with Grey Goose
She don’t like whiskey
She’ll take a dirty martini or two
You say it’s your birthday
If you’ll allow me to opine
I hope that it’s happy
I think you’ll enjoy 29
And many more…
If there is any country on earth where the course of true love may be expected to run smooth, it is America. Harriet Martineau

It’s Friday, and I’m glad to take it easy this morning.
I recorded Mr. Dylan’s Girl from the North Country last year for Maggie’s birthday, and I’d like to share it again today. It sounds like autumn!
Girl from the North Country
Well, if you’re travelin’ in the north country fair,
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline,
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine.
Well, if you go when the snowflakes storm,
When the rivers freeze and summer ends,
Please see if she’s wearing a coat so warm,
To keep her from the howlin’ winds.
Please see for me if her hair hangs long,
If it rolls and flows all down her breast.
Please see for me if her hair hangs long,
That’s the way I remember her best.
I’m a-wonderin’ if she remembers me at all.
Many times I’ve often prayed
In the darkness of my night,
In the brightness of my day.
So if you’re travelin’ in the north country fair,
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline,
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine.

This took about an hour to record, and the lyrics are as follows:
I knelt in secret
Beside your bed
I lived in wonder
Inside your head
When time spoke for me
It said a lot
I meant to thank him
But I forgot
I considered keeping the whole thing to myself, but the ending makes me giggle, so I simply must share. Try not to think about what I was thinking, feeling, or wearing. Enjoy:
