Those Thursdays are fallin’ on my head.
Is This Interesting?
Thoughts/feelings that just might not matter:
Woot! Woot! Good morning, little Gazette. How’d you sleep? You know it was six months ago today that I brought you into this world. I stayed up all night trying to figure everything out, make you look nice, get you ready for the people. And finally, at 4:47 am, you were born. You were so cute, and you smelled so good. I was unemployed then, do you remember? We had so much time together! Coffeehouses, libraries, sitting on the couch at home. You’ve changed my life, little guy. One of the big reasons I get up in the morning and head to work is to take care of you. I brag about you all the time, and I just want you to get better and stronger and…
Oh, hello, fair reader! Excuse me. I was having a little one-on-one time with my blog. Six months! No, it’s not that long, but when you consider that most bloggers quit within three months, well, I’m proud of it. And why shouldn’t I be? Take a look at this performance chart!

As you can see, the readership has grown every month, peaking at 9,687 visits in January. I know, it’s not the New York Times, but it keeps me going. I’m working a full-time job now, and I can’t tour like I used to. I can’t perform or write music as much as I used to. So The Southpaw Jones Fun Time Gazette fills some pretty important holes in my life.
Thank you, thank you for visiting and reading. Feel free to send in more encouragement, suggestions or contributions. Please do spread the word. Thanks to everyone who has linked to us. Big thanks to Spike, Herman, Abi, Bill, Tiff, Brit, Maggie, Tom, and Zach for spicing up the scene. Let’s meet back here to celebrate one full year on August 1!

Freshly-picked quotes from the ol’ reference collection:
I’m sad to hear that Molly Ivins passed away last night. She was a great Texas writer, satirist, and proponent of good ol’ fashioned common sense. A couple of quotes:
>I dearly love the state of Texas, but I consider that a harmless perversion on my part, and discuss it only with consenting adults.
The poor man who is currently our president has reached such a point of befuddlement that he thinks stem cell research is the same as taking human lives, but that 40,000 dead Iraqi civilians are progress toward democracy.
Naturally, when it comes to voting, we in Texas are accustomed to discerning that fine hair’s-breadth worth of difference that makes one hopeless dipstick slightly less awful than the other. But it does raise the question: Why bother?
I know vegetarians don’t like to hear this, but God made an awful lot of land that’s good for nothing but grazing.
The thing about democracy, beloveds, is that it is not neat, orderly, or quiet. It requires a certain relish for confusion.
We’ll miss you.

I am not a smoker…
Bill Passalacqua’s reasons for not lighting up in ‘07:
Looks like this is the last entry. Thanks for sharing and congratulations, Bill!
I am not a smoker because I don’t even consider smoking anymore. Today marks 31 days smoke free for me and for my wife, Tiffani Ginn. We have each saved $138.50. I intened to write this blog every day for a year but for a couple of reasons I’m going to let that go. When I first quit smoking, it was all I thought about. I had 10-20 reasons at any given moment to quit smoking. But now, I have to remind myself to blog and when I sit down to do it I have to reach back and remember all the things I hated about being a smoker. I want to give some props to Tiffani who quit and stayed quit, even though she would tell you that she was much more addicted than me. Props to my sister-in-law Brit who urged us to quit and did so herself just over a year ago. I want to give props to our friend Carol who started the ball rolling 14 months ago(??) by having a heart attack. It’s her birthday tomorrow and we’re glad that you are here to celebrate with us.
The other reason is that I’m hitting the road tomorrow with The Ginn Sisters and will be on tour for 5 weeks and it’s just going to get harder and harder as we go. But keep your eyes open for my thoughts on the Scooter Libby trial.
Thanks for all of your support!

[…] See if you can follow me on this one. Remember yesterday, when I celebrated the 6 month anniversary of this Gazette with a little rant? Well, I took that text, used a site to translate it into Russian, then I translated it back into English. That process always results in some fun stuff for word nerds like me. Check it out, “valid reader”: […]
